Lance Parrish Autographed 1986 Fleer Classic Miniatures #49 Detroit Tigers Card

Add one of the more distinctive small-format issues from Lance Parrish's Detroit Tigers career with this 1986 Fleer Classic Miniatures #49 card, personally autographed by the eight-time All-Star catcher and key member of Detroit's 1984 World Series championship team.

The 1986 Fleer Classic Miniatures set is a particularly fun oddball release from the mid-1980s. Rather than simply shrinking the regular Fleer cards, the set used all-new player photographs and cards measuring only approximately 1 13/16" x 2 9/16", making them noticeably smaller than standard baseball cards. The complete set contained 120 player cards and was distributed as a factory set in a red, white and silver box along with 18 team-logo stickers.

That makes Parrish's #49 much more than a miniature version of his regular 1986 Fleer #234. The different photography, unusual dimensions and factory-set distribution give the Classic Miniatures card its own identity and make it a worthwhile addition to a comprehensive Parrish autograph collection.

The issue also comes from the final season of Parrish's original tenure with Detroit. He entered 1986 following another strong campaign in 1985, when he batted .273 with 150 hits, 28 home runs and 98 RBI, earning his fourth consecutive All-Star selection and third consecutive Gold Glove Award.

Although injuries limited Parrish to only 91 games in 1986, he remained one of baseball's most dangerous offensive catchers. He hit 22 home runs with 62 RBI, producing a .483 slugging percentage and .824 OPS. His performance earned him another American League All-Star selection and Silver Slugger Award.

That All-Star appearance was Parrish's fifth consecutive selection from 1982 through 1986, while the Silver Slugger was the fifth of the six he would ultimately earn during his career.

Following the 1986 season, Parrish left Detroit and signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, making this miniature issue part of the final group of cards produced during his original Tigers tenure. Parrish eventually finished his 19-year Major League career with 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI, along with eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves and six Silver Slugger Awards.
