The card comes from an interesting point in Parrish's career. He entered 1986 after another strong season in 1985, when he batted .273 with 150 hits, 27 doubles, 28 home runs and 98 RBI. He earned his fourth consecutive American League All-Star selection and captured his third consecutive Gold Glove Award.

Although back problems limited Parrish to only 91 games in 1986, his power production remained impressive. He batted .257 with 22 home runs and 62 RBI, slugged .483 and posted an .824 OPS. Those 22 home runs in only 327 at-bats demonstrate just how dangerous he remained in the middle of Detroit's lineup.

Parrish was particularly productive during the first half, entering the All-Star break with 21 home runs and 59 RBI. He was selected to the American League All-Star team for the fifth consecutive season and ultimately received another Silver Slugger Award despite missing a substantial portion of the year.

The card also represents the end of Parrish's original run with Detroit. After the 1986 season, he became a free agent and joined the Philadelphia Phillies, making 1986 his final season with the Tigers until a brief return late in his career. During his initial Detroit tenure, Parrish accumulated 212 home runs and 700 RBI, while helping the Tigers capture the 1984 World Series championship.

Parrish ultimately finished his 19-year Major League career as an eight-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner and six-time Silver Slugger winner, with 324 career home runs and 1,070 RBI.
