Add a classic late-era Detroit issue of one of the premier catchers of the 1980s with this 1986 Topps #740 Lance Parrish card featuring him with the Detroit Tigers, personally autographed by the eight-time All-Star and key member of Detroit's 1984 World Series championship team.
Unlike the 1986 Topps #36 Tigers Leaders card, #740 is Parrish's regular individual player card in the 1986 Topps set. This gives Parrish collectors two distinctly different cards to pursue from the flagship release: the team leaders #36 and his standard #740. Hobby checklists consistently catalog Parrish at #740 as a Detroit Tiger.
The card was issued during what became the final season of Parrish's original tenure with Detroit. He entered 1986 following another excellent year in 1985, when he batted .273 with 150 hits, 27 doubles, 28 home runs and 98 RBI, earning another American League All-Star selection and his third consecutive Gold Glove Award.
Although injuries limited Parrish to only 91 games in 1986, he remained a formidable power hitter, finishing with 22 home runs and 62 RBI. He earned another American League All-Star selection and Silver Slugger Award, continuing an impressive run that saw him selected to five consecutive All-Star Games from 1982 through 1986.
The 1986 season brought Parrish's first Detroit tenure to a close. He became a free agent following the season and signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, making the 1986 Topps #740 one of his final mainstream cards depicting him during his original Tigers run.
That Detroit tenure included the defining accomplishment of Parrish's career: the 1984 World Series championship. Parrish was an offensive anchor for the Tigers, leading the club with 33 home runs and 98 RBI during the regular season before homering in the championship-clinching Game 5 against the San Diego Padres.
Parrish ultimately completed a 19-year Major League career with 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI, earning eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves and six Silver Slugger Awards.
