Add a first-year Select issue from Lance Parrish's brief Seattle Mariners chapter with this 1993 Score Select #388, personally autographed by the eight-time Major League All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger winner and starting catcher for the 1984 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers.
The 1993 Select release is an important early-premium issue, coming from the period when card manufacturers were rapidly expanding beyond their traditional flagship products. Produced under the Score/Pinnacle umbrella, Select offered collectors another upscale alternative with a more polished design and presentation. Parrish's #388 Seattle Mariners card therefore provides a different collecting angle from his regular 1993 Score #587.
The Mariners represent one of the shortest chapters of Parrish's long Major League career. He began 1992 with the California Angels before joining Seattle, where he appeared in only 69 games. That short stay resulted in a comparatively limited selection of Parrish cards showing him as a Mariner.
Parrish still supplied useful power at age 36. In 192 at-bats for Seattle, he collected 45 hits, 11 doubles, one triple and eight home runs with 21 RBI, batting .234 with a .304 on-base percentage and .427 slugging percentage. His .731 OPS translated to a 103 OPS+, meaning his offensive production remained slightly above league average.
His role was changing as his career progressed. Parrish was no longer exclusively an everyday catcher, with Seattle using him at catcher, first base and designated hitter. That allowed the veteran to continue contributing offensively while reducing the physical workload he had handled for so many seasons behind the plate.
Although this is a 1993 card, it reflects Parrish's 1992 Seattle tenure. By the 1993 season, he had moved on to the Cleveland Indians, where he appeared in 10 Major League games. This makes the Select #388 another classic transition-era card, preserving Parrish's short-lived Mariners affiliation after his playing tenure with the club had ended.
For the Parrish run, I like this one a little more than the regular 1993 Score #587. Select was positioned as a more premium product, and the combination of that early Select branding with Parrish's very brief Seattle tenure gives the signed #388 two worthwhile collecting angles.

The combination of an early Select issue and Parrish's short 69-game Seattle tenure makes this a nice step beyond an ordinary late-career base card. It is an excellent addition for collectors of Lance Parrish autographs, Seattle Mariners memorabilia, 1993 Select baseball cards, premium-era issues, short-tenure player cards, or comprehensive signed player collections.
