Add another of the relatively small group of Lance Parrish Seattle Mariners cards to a comprehensive autograph collection with this 1993 Score #587, personally autographed by the eight-time Major League All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger winner and starting catcher for the 1984 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers.

The 1993 Score #587 represents Parrish's brief stop with the Seattle Mariners, a team he played for only during the latter portion of the 1992 season. After beginning 1992 with the California Angels, Parrish joined Seattle and appeared in 69 games for the Mariners, making his Seattle cards considerably fewer in number than those depicting him with Detroit, Philadelphia or California.

Parrish remained a useful power bat during his short stay in Seattle. In 192 at-bats, he collected 45 hits, 11 doubles, one triple and eight home runs while driving in 21 runs. He batted .234 with a .304 on-base percentage, .427 slugging percentage and .731 OPS.

His role had also evolved considerably from his years as an everyday catcher. The veteran appeared at catcher, first base and designated hitter for Seattle, allowing the Mariners to take advantage of his experience and remaining power while reducing the physical demands of catching every day.

The card is technically a 1993 issue documenting Parrish's 1992 Seattle stint. By the time the 1993 Major League season was underway, Parrish had moved on and appeared in 10 games for the Cleveland Indians. That gives #587 the familiar transition-year quality found on many cards from this period, where the player's pictured team lagged behind his actual roster movement.

Parrish's brief Seattle stay also put him on the same roster as Ken Griffey Jr. and Jay Buhner. Griffey was already emerging as one of baseball's biggest stars, hitting .308 with 27 home runs and 103 RBI during the 1992 season.

For the Parrish run, I think the 1993 Seattle cards deserve a little more attention than ordinary late-career commons. The Donruss #85, Fleer #679 and this Score #587 all document a stop that lasted only 69 games, giving the group some legitimate team-completion appeal.
