Add another of the relatively limited number of Seattle Mariners Lance Parrish issues to a comprehensive autograph collection with this 1993 Fleer #679, personally autographed by the eight-time Major League All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger winner and starting catcher for the 1984 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers. The card is confirmed as 1993 Fleer #679 featuring Parrish with Seattle.

The Mariners represent one of the shortest stops of Parrish's 19-year Major League career. After beginning the 1992 season with the California Angels, Parrish joined Seattle and appeared in 69 games for the Mariners. He batted .234 with 45 hits, 11 doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 21 RBI, producing a .427 slugging percentage and .731 OPS.

Parrish was no longer being asked to handle the everyday catching workload that had defined much of his career. Seattle used the 36-year-old veteran in several roles, including 34 games at catcher, 16 at first base and 14 as designated hitter. Even in a reduced role, he produced a 103 OPS+, demonstrating that his bat remained useful late in his career.

His brief stay in Seattle also placed Parrish on the same roster as a 22-year-old Ken Griffey Jr., who hit .308 with 27 home runs and 103 RBI in 1992, along with Jay Buhner and Kevin Mitchell.

Although the card was released in 1993, Parrish's Mariners tenure had already ended. He appeared in the majors with Cleveland in 1993, making the Fleer #679 a classic example of the hobby's production cycle preserving a player's previous team after he had moved on.

For a deep Parrish autograph run, that actually makes the 1993 Fleer #679 more interesting than its ordinary base-card status might suggest. Seattle was only a partial-season stop, so Parrish has far fewer Mariners cards than Detroit, Philadelphia or California issues. Pairing this with the 1993 Donruss #85 gives the collection another nice representation of this short-lived chapter of his career.

The short Seattle tenure is the selling point here. Parrish spent only part of 1992 with the Mariners, so there simply aren't nearly as many cards showing him in a Seattle uniform. That makes the signed 1993 Fleer #679 a worthwhile addition for collectors of Lance Parrish autographs, Seattle Mariners memorabilia, 1993 Fleer baseball cards, short-tenure player issues, or comprehensive signed player collections.
