Add an attractive early-1990s Leaf issue to a comprehensive Lance Parrish autograph collection with this 1991 Leaf #368 California Angels card, personally autographed by the eight-time Major League All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger winner and 1984 World Series champion.
The 1991 Leaf #368 comes during Parrish's third full season with the California Angels and immediately follows one of the finest late-career performances of his career. In 1990, Parrish hit .268 with 24 home runs and 70 RBI, posting a 123 OPS+ and leading Angels position players with 4.5 WAR. That performance earned him both American League All-Star and Silver Slugger honors.
Parrish remained California's primary catcher in 1991. At age 35, he appeared in 119 games, recording 87 hits, 12 doubles, 19 home runs and 51 RBI. His 19 home runs ranked third on the Angels, trailing only Dave Winfield's 28 and Wally Joyner's 21.
He continued to provide substantial value behind the plate as well. Parrish caught 111 games and made 102 starts, committing only two errors while posting an excellent .997 fielding percentage.
The card also comes from an interesting period for Leaf. After the hobby success of the premium-oriented 1990 Leaf release, the 1991 Leaf set continued the brand's more upscale presentation, giving collectors a noticeably different alternative to the era's Topps, Donruss, Fleer and Score cards.
Parrish's California tenure lasted from 1989 into 1992, following ten seasons with Detroit and two with Philadelphia. He later played for Seattle, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Toronto before completing his Major League career in 1995.
By the end of his 19-year career, Parrish had accumulated 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI. His impressive rsum includes eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves and six Silver Slugger Awards, along with his role as the starting catcher for the 1984 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers.
