The 1988 Fleer #310 comes from Parrish's second and final season with the Philadelphia Phillies. After spending the first decade of his Major League career with the Detroit Tigers, Parrish signed with Philadelphia before the 1987 season and became the Phillies' primary catcher.

During his first year in Philadelphia, Parrish appeared in 130 games, collecting 114 hits, 21 doubles, 17 home runs and 67 RBI. He returned as Philadelphia's starting catcher in 1988 and handled the bulk of the work behind the plate for a second consecutive season.

The 1988 season produced an important milestone in Parrish's career. He was selected to the National League All-Star team, his eighth career All-Star selection and his first as a National Leaguer. Having previously represented Detroit in the American League, Parrish became an All-Star in both leagues during his career.
