Lance Parrish Autographed 1988 Donruss Baseball's Best #184 Philadelphia Phillies Card
Add a distinctive boxed-set Donruss issue from Lance Parrish's Philadelphia Phillies tenure with this 1988 Donruss Baseball's Best #184, personally autographed by the eight-time Major League All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger winner and 1984 World Series champion. Parrish is correctly cataloged as #184 in the 1988 Donruss Baseball's Best set.
The Baseball's Best release gives Parrish collectors a separate 1988 Donruss issue beyond his regular Donruss #359. These supplemental Donruss sets are especially appealing for comprehensive player collections because they provide another distinct card from the same season while featuring many of the game's established stars.
This card comes from Parrish's second and final season with the Philadelphia Phillies. After spending the first decade of his Major League career with Detroit, Parrish joined Philadelphia in 1987 and immediately became the club's primary catcher. During that first Phillies season, he appeared in 130 games with 17 home runs and 67 RBI.
Parrish's 1988 season added another major accomplishment to his rsum. He was selected to the National League All-Star team, joining pitcher Kevin Gross as Philadelphia's representatives. The selection was Parrish's eighth career All-Star appearance and his first as a National Leaguer after previously earning his honors with Detroit in the American League.
During the 1988 season, Parrish appeared in 123 games, hitting 15 home runs with 60 RBI while continuing to handle the majority of Philadelphia's catching duties. He started 114 games behind the plate and caught more than 997 innings for the Phillies.
Parrish left Philadelphia following the season and joined the California Angels for 1989, making his 1988 cards the final issues from his relatively brief Phillies tenure. That makes the Baseball's Best #184 a worthwhile companion to his regular Donruss #359 for collectors attempting to assemble a deep Parrish autograph run.
Over 19 Major League seasons, Parrish accumulated 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI. His career honors include eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves, six Silver Slugger Awards and the 1984 World Series championship with Detroit.
