Add the regular flagship Lance Parrish card from the iconic woodgrain-bordered 1987 Topps set with this #791 Detroit Tigers issue, personally autographed by the eight-time All-Star catcher and key member of Detroit's 1984 World Series championship team.
There is an important distinction between Parrish's two appearances in the 1987 Topps base set. Card #613 is his All-Star subset card, while #791 is his regular individual player card. PSA's Detroit Tigers checklist and other major set checklists confirm Parrish at both #613 AS and #791, with the latter being his standard base card.
The 1987 Topps #791 is also the next-to-last card in the entire 792-card set, immediately preceding the final checklist card #792. That unusual placement near the very end of the set gives it another interesting characteristic for player and set collectors.
Although issued for 1987, the card still identifies and pictures Parrish with the Detroit Tigers. Parrish's original Detroit tenure had concluded following the 1986 season, and he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies for 1987. As a result, #791 is an excellent transitional card representing the conclusion of his decade-long first stint with the Tigers.
Parrish remained extremely productive during his final Detroit season. Despite being limited to only 91 games in 1986, he hit 22 home runs with 62 RBI and earned another American League All-Star selection and Silver Slugger Award. It marked his fifth consecutive All-Star season from 1982 through 1986.
His Detroit career was highlighted by the unforgettable 1984 World Series championship. Parrish was one of the offensive anchors of that club, hitting 33 home runs with 98 RBI during the regular season and earning All-Star, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger honors.
Parrish ultimately completed a 19-year Major League career with 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI, earning eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves and six Silver Slugger Awards.
