This is one of the better cards for closing out a comprehensive Lance Parrish playing-career run. The 1996 Upper Deck #104 features Parrish with the Toronto Blue Jays, the seventh and final Major League organization of his 19-year career. The card is confirmed as 1996 Upper Deck #104 Lance Parrish Toronto Blue Jays.

What makes this card particularly interesting is its timing. Parrish's final Major League season was 1995, meaning the 1996 Upper Deck #104 was released after his playing career had concluded. Unlike many late-career cards that picture a player with a previous club after a transaction, Upper Deck correctly depicts Parrish with Toronto, his final MLB team.

Parrish joined the Blue Jays for the 1995 season at age 39 and appeared in 70 games, collecting 36 hits, nine doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI. He made his final Major League appearances that year, bringing to a close a career that had begun with Detroit in 1977.

The Toronto season completed a career that saw Parrish play for Detroit, Philadelphia, California, Seattle, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Toronto. While the overwhelming majority of his cards picture him with Detroit, Philadelphia or California, the late-career Seattle, Pittsburgh and Toronto issues give a comprehensive autograph collection considerably more depth.

By the end of his career, Parrish had accumulated 1,782 hits, 305 doubles, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI in 1,988 games. He was an eight-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger winner and a key member of the 1984 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers.

There's also something fitting about an Upper Deck card serving as one of the final contemporary Parrish issues. Upper Deck had become known for its photography-driven cards beginning in 1989, and #104 provides a clean late-career representation of Parrish in the uniform of his final team.

For the Parrish run, this is one I would definitely emphasize as a career-closing issue. Between the 1996 Collector's Choice #349 and this Upper Deck #104, you have cards issued immediately after his retirement that still properly represent him with Toronto, his final team. The unsigned #104 itself isn't scarce or expensive, but the significance of a signed copy comes from its position at the very end of Parrish's contemporary playing-era checklist.
