Add another of Lance Parrish's final California Angels-era issues with this 1992 Leaf #269, personally autographed by the eight-time Major League All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger winner and starting catcher for the 1984 World Series champion Detroit Tigers.
The 1992 Leaf #269 captures Parrish at an interesting transitional point in his career. After joining California in 1989, Parrish spent three full seasons as the Angels' primary catcher before beginning the 1992 season with California and finishing it with the Seattle Mariners.
Parrish's Angels tenure included an impressive late-career resurgence. His best season in California came in 1990, when at age 34 he hit .268 with 24 home runs and 70 RBI, posted a 123 OPS+ and produced 4.5 WAR. That performance earned him his eighth career All-Star selection and sixth Silver Slugger Award.
He remained productive in 1991, hitting another 19 home runs with 51 RBI while continuing to serve as California's primary catcher. By the beginning of 1992, however, the Angels portion of Parrish's career was nearing its conclusion.
Parrish appeared in 24 games for California in 1992, batting .229 with 19 hits, two doubles, four home runs and 11 RBI. He made 21 starts behind the plate before moving on to Seattle.
With the Mariners, Parrish appeared in another 69 games and hit eight home runs with 21 RBI, while also seeing time at first base and designated hitter. Combined between the two clubs, he finished 1992 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI in 93 games.
For a comprehensive Parrish autograph collection, the 1992 Leaf #269 is a nice end-of-an-era card. It still depicts him as a California Angel even though his four-season association with the organization would end during the year, making it one of the final mainstream issues representing that portion of his career.
