Add a sharp early Upper Deck issue from one of Lance Parrish's strongest late-career seasons with this 1990 Upper Deck #674 California Angels card, personally autographed by the eight-time Major League All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger winner and 1984 World Series champion. Parrish is correctly identified as #674 with the California Angels in the 1990 Upper Deck release.
The card comes from only the second year of Upper Deck baseball, following the company's landmark 1989 debut. Upper Deck had quickly established a premium reputation in the hobby through its photography, higher-quality card stock and hologram-backed cards, giving Parrish's 1990 issue a distinctly different presentation from his contemporary Topps, Donruss, Fleer and Score cards.
The timing of this card is particularly good for Parrish collectors. His 1990 season with California was one of the finest performances of the latter portion of his career. At age 34, Parrish played 133 games and batted .268 with 126 hits, 24 home runs and 70 RBI, producing a .338 on-base percentage, .451 slugging percentage and 123 OPS+.
Parrish's performance earned him selection to the 1990 American League All-Star team. He went 1-for-1 with a walk in the All-Star Game, and the selection proved to be the eighth and final All-Star appearance of his career.
He also captured the 1990 American League Silver Slugger Award at catcher, the sixth Silver Slugger of his career. Parrish's combination of power and durability remained impressive: he appeared in 131 games behind the plate and made 125 starts at catcher during the season.
For a deep Parrish autograph run, the card also follows nicely after his two-card 1989 Upper Deck transition. Upper Deck #240 still featured him with Philadelphia, while #775 updated his affiliation to California. By 1990, #674 firmly represents the Angels chapter of Parrish's careerand arguably its high point.
Parrish eventually completed a 19-year Major League career with 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI. His career honors include eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves, six Silver Slugger Awards and the 1984 World Series championship as the starting catcher for the Detroit Tigers.
