Add one of the more attractive premium issues from Lance Parrish's outstanding 1990 California Angels season with this 1990 Leaf #195, personally autographed by the eight-time Major League All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger winner and 1984 World Series champion.
The 1990 Leaf set occupies an important place in the hobby as one of the era's more premium baseball card releases. With its cleaner design, upgraded card stock and relatively polished presentation compared with many mass-produced releases of the period, 1990 Leaf quickly became a favorite among collectors. Parrish's #195 California Angels card provides a great signed example from that landmark set.
The timing of the card is particularly appropriate because 1990 was one of Parrish's finest late-career seasons. At age 34, he batted .268 with 126 hits, 14 doubles, 24 home runs and 70 RBI in 133 games, while posting a .338 on-base percentage, .451 slugging percentage and 123 OPS+. His 4.5 WAR led the California Angels' position players that season.
Parrish's performance earned him a spot on the 1990 American League All-Star team. It was his eighth and final career All-Star selection and represented a return to the American League squad after his 1988 National League selection with Philadelphia.
He also won the 1990 American League Silver Slugger Award at catcher, the sixth Silver Slugger of his career. His previous five had come with Detroit in 1980, 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1986, making the 1990 honor his first as a member of the Angels.
Parrish remained remarkably durable behind the plate as well. He appeared in 131 games at catcher and made 125 starts, handling 1,098 innings while posting a .993 fielding percentage. For a 34-year-old catcher with more than a decade of Major League experience already behind him, his combination of workload and offensive production was impressive.
His overall career eventually included 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI, along with eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves and six Silver Slugger Awards. Parrish was also the starting catcher for the 1984 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers.
