Add a classic 1990 Fleer issue from one of Lance Parrish's best late-career seasons with this 1990 Fleer #141 California Angels card, personally autographed by the eight-time Major League All-Star and 1984 World Series champion.
Parrish was entering his second season with the California Angels after joining the club in 1989, and 1990 proved to be a remarkable resurgence for the veteran catcher. At age 34, he remained one of the most productive offensive catchers in baseball.
Parrish appeared in 133 games during the 1990 season, batting .268 with 126 hits, 14 doubles, 24 home runs and 70 RBI. He posted a .338 on-base percentage, .451 slugging percentage and 123 OPS+, while his 4.5 WAR led all Angels position players.
His performance earned Parrish selection to the 1990 American League All-Star team, his eighth and final career All-Star appearance. After representing Detroit six times in the American League and Philadelphia once in the National League, Parrish returned to the AL All-Star roster as a member of California.
Parrish also captured the 1990 American League Silver Slugger Award at catcher, the sixth Silver Slugger of his career. His previous five came with Detroit in 1980, 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1986, making the 1990 award his first with the Angels.
His contributions went well beyond his bat. Parrish appeared in 131 games at catcher and made 125 starts behind the plate, handling 1,098 innings while posting a .993 fielding percentage. Even in his mid-30s, he remained an everyday catcher capable of carrying a substantial defensive workload.
The 1990 season stands out within Parrish's career. His 24 home runs were his highest total since 1985, and his 4.5 WAR was his best season by that measure since Detroit's championship year of 1984.
Parrish ultimately completed a 19-year Major League career with 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI. His rsum includes eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves, six Silver Slugger Awards and the 1984 World Series championship with Detroit.
