He entered the season after an outstanding 1983 campaign, when he batted .269 with 163 hits, a career-high 42 doubles, 27 home runs and a career-high 114 RBI. He earned All-Star, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger honors while finishing ninth in American League MVP voting.

The timing of this card makes it particularly desirable for Tigers collectors because 1984 became one of the greatest seasons in franchise history. Detroit stormed out to a 35-5 start, won 104 regular-season games and captured the American League East before sweeping Kansas City in the ALCS and defeating San Diego in the World Series.

Parrish was a major part of that championship club. Batting in the heart of Detroit's lineup, he appeared in 147 games and led the Tigers with 33 home runs and 98 RBI. His performance earned him another American League All-Star selection, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award.

He also contributed throughout the postseason. Across eight playoff games, Parrish hit two home runs with five RBI. In the World Series against San Diego, he batted .278 with five hits and homered in the decisive Game 5, helping Detroit finish off the Padres and capture its first World Series championship since 1968.

Parrish ultimately became one of the defining catchers of his generation. During his 19-year Major League career, he earned eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves and six Silver Slugger Awards, finishing with 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI.
