The 1982 Topps #535 captures Parrish as he was entering the prime of his career and becoming one of the most productive offensive catchers in baseball. By this point, he had firmly established himself as Detroit's everyday catcher and an important member of the talented young Tigers core.

The season in which this card was issued became one of Parrish's best. In 1982, he appeared in 133 games and batted .284 with 138 hits, 19 doubles, 32 home runs and 87 RBI. He posted a .529 slugging percentage, .867 OPS and 135 OPS+, while producing 5.0 WAR from the demanding catcher position.

His 32 home runs led the Detroit Tigers and ranked fifth in the American League. The performance earned Parrish an American League All-Star selection and Silver Slugger Award, while he finished 13th in AL MVP voting.

Parrish continued developing alongside young Tigers stars such as Alan Trammell, Lou Whitaker, Jack Morris and Kirk Gibson, forming the nucleus that would eventually bring a championship back to Detroit.

That championship arrived in 1984, when Parrish led the Tigers with 33 home runs and 98 RBI while earning All-Star, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger honors. Detroit went on to capture the World Series, with Parrish contributing two home runs during the postseason.

Parrish ultimately finished his 19-year Major League career with 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI, earning eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves and six Silver Slugger Awards.
