Own an autographed 1989 Bowman #405 baseball card personally signed by Juan Samuel, featuring the dynamic second baseman with the Philadelphia Phillies. This distinctive Bowman issue comes from Samuel's final season with Philadelphia and is part of the historic release that marked the return of the Bowman baseball card brand after more than three decades.

The 1989 Bowman set marked Topps' revival of the Bowman name, which had last appeared on a major baseball card set in 1955. The 484-card release is immediately recognizable for its oversized dimensions, measuring approximately 2 x 3 inches, making the cards taller than the modern standard. This unique format and the significance of Bowman's return have given the set a distinctive place in modern baseball card history. Card #405 features Juan Samuel with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Samuel had established himself as one of the National League's premier power-speed players during the 1980s. In his first full Major League season in 1984, he batted .272 with 15 home runs, 69 RBIs, 19 triples, and 72 stolen bases. His 72 steals established a Phillies single-season record at the time, while his 19 triples led the National League. Samuel earned his first MLB All-Star selection and finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting.

He continued to demonstrate his remarkable combination of speed and extra-base power throughout his Phillies tenure. Samuel led the National League in triples again in 1985, and in 1987 enjoyed one of his finest seasons, batting .272 with career highs of 28 home runs and 100 RBIs, along with 15 triples and 35 stolen bases. His performance earned him his second All-Star selection.

The 1989 season marked the end of Samuel's original tenure in Philadelphia. In June, the Phillies traded him to the New York Mets in the notable deal that brought Lenny Dykstra and Roger McDowell to Philadelphia. Because this Bowman card still depicts Samuel as a Phillie, it represents the closing chapter of his successful run with the organization during the 1980s.

Samuel went on to earn his third MLB All-Star selection with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1991 and ultimately played 16 Major League seasons. He finished his career with 1,578 hits, 161 home runs, 396 stolen bases, and 102 triples and later returned to Philadelphia as a coach.

Personally signed by Juan Samuel, this 1989 Bowman #405 combines the autograph of one of the Phillies' most exciting players of the era with a card from the landmark revival of the Bowman brand.
