The classic Fleer issue features the veteran outfielder following his only season with Detroit, a year in which he provided valuable left-handed power for one of the greatest teams in franchise history.
Jones joined the Tigers for the 1984 season and made the most of his role on a loaded Detroit roster. Appearing in 79 games, he batted .284 with 12 home runs and 37 RBI in just 215 at-bats, while posting an impressive .516 slugging percentage and .862 OPS. Jones was part of the Tigers postseason roster as Detroit defeated the Kansas City Royals in the American League Championship Series before defeating the San Diego Padres to capture the 1984 World Series championship. The title added another accomplishment to a career that also included two MLB All-Star selections, first with the Seattle Mariners in 1977 and later with the San Diego Padres in 1982.
Over 12 Major League seasons, Jones collected 1,103 hits, 147 home runs, 579 RBI and 143 stolen bases while playing for the Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers and California Angels.
