Reed began his Major League career with the Atlanta Braves in 1966, initially establishing himself as a reliable starting pitcher. In 1969, he enjoyed one of his finest seasons, compiling an 18-10 record with a 3.47 ERA and earning his only National League All-Star selection while helping Atlanta capture the National League West championship.

After spending the 1975 season with the St. Louis Cardinals, Reed joined the Philadelphia Phillies in 1976. He successfully transitioned into a relief role, becoming a valuable part of the pitching staff as Philadelphia captured three consecutive National League East titles from 1976 through 1978.

Reed was particularly effective in 1977, appearing in 59 games while compiling a 7-5 record, 2.75 ERA and 15 saves. His ability to work multiple innings and handle difficult late-game situations made him an important part of the Phillies bullpen.

During the 1980 season, Reed appeared in 55 games and recorded nine saves, helping Philadelphia capture the National League East championship. The Phillies went on to defeat the Houston Astros in a memorable National League Championship Series before overcoming the Kansas City Royals in six games to claim the first World Series championship in franchise history.

The 1982 Fleer #255 features Reed during the later years of his Philadelphia career. He remained with the Phillies through 1983, contributing to another National League pennant-winning team before concluding his Major League career with the Chicago White Sox in 1984.

Over 19 Major League seasons, Reed compiled 146 victories, 103 saves and 1,481 strikeouts in 751 appearances. His ability to excel as both a starting pitcher and reliever made him one of the more versatile pitchers of his generation.

The 1982 Fleer #255 is an appealing addition for Philadelphia Phillies collectors, Ron Reed fans, 1980 World Series championship collections, vintage Fleer enthusiasts or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
