An early-career issue of one of the American Leagues most productive power-hitting catchers, this Mickey Tettleton autographed 1985 Fleer Update #U-119 Oakland Athletics card comes from Fleers year-end Update release. Tettleton made his Major League debut with Oakland during the 1984 season and was still at the beginning of a career that would eventually produce more than 240 home runs.

Tettleton appeared in 90 games for Oakland in 1985, seeing time behind the plate while continuing to establish himself at the Major League level. The Athletics had selected him in the fifth round of the 1981 MLB Draft, and he spent parts of four seasons with Oakland before eventually emerging as an impact hitter elsewhere in the American League.

His breakthrough came after joining the Baltimore Orioles. In 1989, Tettleton hit 26 home runs and earned his first American League All-Star selection while winning a Silver Slugger Award. He captured another Silver Slugger in 1991 before moving to Detroit, where his combination of power and patience made him an important part of the Tigers lineup.

Tettleton enjoyed some of his biggest offensive seasons in Detroit, including a 32-home run, 83-RBI performance in 1992 that earned him his second All-Star selection. Known for his distinctive batting stance, excellent plate discipline and switch-hitting power, he finished his 14-year Major League career with 245 home runs, 732 RBI and 949 walks.

As an early Fleer Update issue from Tettletons Oakland years, the 1985 Fleer Update #U-119 is an appealing addition for Oakland Athletics collectors, Mickey Tettleton fans, 1980s catcher collections, Fleer Update set collectors or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
