Add an important first-year Philadelphia Phillies issue of Lance Parrish with this 1987 Topps Traded #94T card, personally autographed by the eight-time All-Star catcher and 1984 World Series champion.
The 1987 Topps Traded #94T is an especially worthwhile Parrish card because it documents one of the biggest transitions of his career. His regular 1987 Topps #791 and #613 All-Star card still feature him with the Detroit Tigers, while the Traded set updated collectors with Parrish as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.
After spending the first decade of his Major League career with Detroit, Parrish signed with Philadelphia as a free agent in March 1987. The move brought an established power-hitting catcher to a Phillies lineup featuring Mike Schmidt, Juan Samuel and Von Hayes.
Parrish became Philadelphia's primary catcher immediately. During his first Phillies season, he appeared in 130 games, collecting 114 hits, 21 doubles, 17 home runs and 67 RBI. He started 124 games behind the plate and handled more than 1,100 innings at catcher.
The card is particularly interesting alongside Parrish's other 1987 releases. Donruss, Fleer and the regular Topps set continued to show him with Detroit, while Topps Traded and Fleer Update captured his new Philadelphia affiliation. For a comprehensive autograph collection, those cards tell the story of his move from the Tigers to the Phillies within a single collecting year.
Parrish spent two seasons in Philadelphia and earned a National League All-Star selection in 1988, giving him the distinction of being an All-Star in both leagues during his career.
His career rsum ultimately included eight All-Star selections, three Gold Gloves, six Silver Slugger Awards and the 1984 World Series championship. Parrish finished his 19-year Major League career with 1,782 hits, 324 home runs and 1,070 RBI.
