The 1993 Select Rookie & Traded set was the year-end companion to the inaugural Select release, updating the checklist with rookies and veteran players who had changed teams. The set contains 150 cards numbered 1T through 150T and was distributed exclusively through the hobby market in foil packs.

The Rookie & Traded cards retain the premium look of the regular 1993 Select set but are immediately distinguishable by their dramatic blue/purple borders rather than the emerald-green borders used on the regular Select cards, along with gold-foil accents and the T-suffixed numbering.

Samuel's #129T is particularly interesting because it documents another transition in his career. His regular 1993 Select #237 features him with the Kansas City Royals, while this later Rookie & Traded issue updates him to the Cincinnati Reds. Samuel played 103 games for Cincinnati in 1993, collecting 60 hits, 10 doubles, four triples, four home runs and nine stolen bases.

The set also had relatively controlled production by the standards of the era. Only 1,950 individually numbered 24-box cases were reportedly produced, giving the Rookie & Traded release a significantly different distribution profile from many mass-produced early-1990s products.
