After time away from the majors, Hammond made a remarkable comeback with the Atlanta Braves in 2002, posting a 0.95 ERA over 63 relief appearances. He went on to pitch for the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds, completing a 14-season Major League career with 441 appearances.
