The 1995 Donruss #428 Chris Hammond features the veteran left-handed pitcher with the Florida Marlins during the formative years of the franchise. Personally autographed by Hammond, this card pairs a distinctive mid-1990s Donruss design with one of the most successful starting pitchers from Florida's inaugural roster.

The 1995 Donruss baseball set continued the brand's move toward a more premium appearance during the 1990s. The release features strong player photography, a glossy finish and foil-accented design elements that give it a noticeably different look from the simpler Donruss cards of the 1980s. Hammond's #428 is a classic example of Donruss during this transitional period in the hobby.

For a Hammond player collection, the card follows his 1994 Donruss #315 and provides another major-brand issue from his extended tenure with Florida. By 1995, Hammond was no longer simply an expansion-draft acquisitionhe had become an established member of the Marlins pitching staff.

Florida selected Hammond from the Cincinnati organization in the 1992 MLB Expansion Draft while assembling its first Major League roster. The move gave the new club an experienced left-handed starter who had already pitched parts of three seasons for the Reds.

Hammond delivered his best season as a Major League starter during the Marlins' inaugural 1993 campaign. He made 32 starts, went 15-12 and led Florida with 15 victories. Those 15 wins established a career high and made Hammond an important part of the earliest chapter of Marlins history.

His professional career had begun with the Cincinnati Reds, who selected him in the sixth round of the 1986 MLB Draft out of the University of Alabama. Hammond progressed through Cincinnati's minor league system and made his Major League debut on July 16, 1990.

While Hammond's early career was primarily spent as a starting pitcher, his later career produced an extraordinary transformation. After being outside the Major Leagues from 1999 through 2001, he returned at age 36 with the Atlanta Braves in 2002 and reinvented himself as a highly effective reliever.

Hammond's comeback season was exceptional. He appeared in 63 games, finished 7-2 with a 0.95 ERA, and allowed only seven earned runs in 76 innings. The performance revived a career that continued for another four seasons after 2002.

Hammond ultimately pitched parts of 14 Major League seasons for the Cincinnati Reds, Florida Marlins, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics and San Diego Padres.

With its unmistakable mid-1990s Donruss styling, early Florida Marlins connection and Hammond's genuine autograph, this #428 is an appealing piece for collectors building a deep player run or assembling signed cards from the original era of Marlins baseball.
