The 1995 Pinnacle #96 Chris Hammond features the left-handed pitcher with the Florida Marlins during the early years of the franchise. Personally autographed by Hammond, this card combines Pinnacle's premium mid-1990s presentation with a pitcher who played an important role on Florida's original Major League roster.

By 1995, Pinnacle had firmly established itself as Score's premium baseball card brand. Introduced in 1992, Pinnacle distinguished itself from traditional releases through high-quality photography, glossy production and sophisticated designs, making the brand a favorite among collectors during the hobby's increasingly competitive premium-card era.

The 1995 Pinnacle set continued that upscale approach while giving its photography a prominent role in the card design. Hammond's #96 provides a sharp representation of his Florida tenure and an attractive surface for his genuine hand-signed autograph.

For player collectors, the card also follows Hammond's 1994 Pinnacle #59, creating consecutive Pinnacle issues from his years in the Marlins rotation. These annual cards help document not only Hammond's career but also the changing designs of one of the defining premium brands of 1990s baseball collecting.

Hammond became a Florida Marlin before the franchise ever took the field. The club selected him from Cincinnati in the 1992 MLB Expansion Draft, bringing an experienced left-handed starter to the roster being assembled for Florida's inaugural season.

He quickly became one of the most dependable pitchers on that first club. Hammond made 32 starts in 1993 and finished 15-12, setting his Major League career high in victories and leading the inaugural Florida Marlins with 15 wins.

Hammond spent five seasons with Florida from 1993 through 1997. His time with the Marlins represented the most extensive starting-pitcher portion of a Major League career that would eventually span parts of 14 seasons.

Originally selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the sixth round of the 1986 MLB Draft out of the University of Alabama, Hammond made his Major League debut on July 16, 1990. He reached Cincinnati during the Reds' World Series championship season before becoming an original member of the Marlins several years later.

Hammond's career eventually took an extraordinary second turn. After being out of the Major Leagues from 1999 through 2001, he returned at age 36 with the Atlanta Braves in 2002 and emerged as one of baseball's most effective relief pitchers.

In 63 appearances, Hammond went 7-2 with a remarkable 0.95 ERA, allowing only seven earned runs across 76 innings. The performance revitalized his career and led to four additional Major League seasons.

Hammond ultimately pitched for the Reds, Marlins, Red Sox, Braves, Yankees, Athletics and Padres. His journey from original Marlins starter to dominant late-career reliever gives his cards an interesting career story that extends well beyond any single team or era.
