The 1993 Topps Traded #86T Chris Hammond features the left-handed pitcher with the Florida Marlins during the expansion franchise's inaugural Major League season. Personally autographed by Hammond, this update issue is an especially appealing card from his career because it reflects his move from the Cincinnati Reds to Florida and documents his breakthrough 15-win season with his new club.

The 1993 Topps Traded set supplemented the regular Topps release with players who changed teams, rookies, draft picks and other subjects whose new affiliations were not represented in the flagship set. Hammond's regular 1993 Topps #437 still pictured him with Cincinnati, while this Traded #86T updates him to the Florida Marlins, making the two cards an excellent before-and-after pairing.

Florida acquired Hammond in the 1992 MLB Expansion Draft as the Marlins and Colorado Rockies assembled their first Major League rosters. Hammond brought several seasons of experience from Cincinnati and quickly became one of the most dependable starters on the first Marlins pitching staff.

The 1993 season became Hammond's best as a Major League starter. He made 32 starts and finished 15-12, establishing a career high in victories and leading the expansion Marlins in wins. His performance gave the new franchise an established left-handed presence in the rotation during its historic first season.

Hammond had originally entered professional baseball when the Cincinnati Reds selected him in the sixth round of the 1986 MLB Draft out of the University of Alabama. After developing through Cincinnati's minor league system, he made his Major League debut with the Reds on July 16, 1990.

His career eventually became notable for much more than his early success as a starter. After being out of the Major Leagues from 1999 through 2001, Hammond staged a remarkable comeback with the Atlanta Braves in 2002 at age 36.

Converted into a highly effective reliever, Hammond went 7-2 with a 0.95 ERA in 63 appearances for Atlanta. He allowed just seven earned runs over 76 innings, turning what could have been the end of his career into the beginning of several more productive Major League seasons.

Hammond ultimately pitched parts of 14 Major League seasons for the Reds, Marlins, Red Sox, Braves, Yankees, Athletics and Padres. His career stretched from a young Cincinnati starter to an inaugural Marlin and eventually one of baseball's most remarkable comeback relievers.

With its Topps Traded designation, inaugural-season Marlins connection and direct tie to Hammond's career-high 15 victories, this autographed #86T is one of the more significant Florida issues from his extensive card run.
