The 1993 Score Select Rookie & Traded #104T Chris Hammond features the left-handed pitcher with the Florida Marlins during the franchise's inaugural Major League season. Personally autographed by Hammond, this updated issue documents his move from the Cincinnati Reds to Florida and represents one of the more appealing Hammond cards tied directly to the birth of the Marlins franchise.

The Select Rookie & Traded release was designed to supplement the regular 1993 Select set with players who had changed teams along with rookies and other additions that warranted updated cards. Hammond was an ideal subject for the release after being selected from Cincinnati in the 1992 MLB Expansion Draft and becoming part of Florida's original roster.

That makes #104T especially interesting alongside Hammond's early-production 1993 cards that continued to show him with the Cincinnati Reds. Rookie & Traded properly updates him to the Marlins, documenting one of the most important changes of his career while providing collectors with a distinct late-season Select issue.

Hammond had originally been selected by Cincinnati in the sixth round of the 1986 MLB Draft after pitching at the University of Alabama. He developed through the Reds organization and reached the Major Leagues in 1990 before pitching for Cincinnati through the 1992 season.

Florida's expansion draft selection gave Hammond the opportunity to become a full-time Major League starter, and he responded with his best season in that role. During the Marlins' inaugural 1993 campaign, Hammond made 32 starts and finished 15-12, leading the expansion club in victories. He also recorded three shutouts during the season.

His 15 victories established a career high and made Hammond an important part of the original Marlins pitching staff. Cards such as this Rookie & Traded issue therefore have additional appeal for collectors interested in the players who helped establish the franchise during its first year.

Hammond later added an extraordinary comeback chapter to his career. After spending three seasons away from the Major Leagues, he returned with the Atlanta Braves in 2002 at age 36 and reinvented himself as a dominant reliever. He went 7-2 with a 0.95 ERA in 63 appearances, allowing just seven earned runs in 76 innings.

Hammond continued pitching through 2006 and appeared in parts of 14 Major League seasons. Combining its updated Florida affiliation, inaugural-season connection and Rookie & Traded status, #104T is an excellent autographed representation of one of the defining seasons of his career.
