The 1991 O-Pee-Chee Premier #60 Chris Hammond is an appealing early-career issue featuring the young left-handed pitcher with the Cincinnati Reds. Personally autographed by Hammond, the card comes from O-Pee-Chee's premium Premier line and offers collectors a distinctive alternative to his more commonly encountered American-issued cards from the period.

Introduced in 1991, O-Pee-Chee Premier represented a departure from the traditional O-Pee-Chee baseball sets that had long been closely associated with Topps designs. Premier featured its own photography and design in a compact set, giving players such as Hammond a distinctly different card from their Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Score, Leaf and Upper Deck counterparts.

Hammond was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the sixth round of the 1986 MLB Draft following his collegiate career at the University of Alabama. After progressing through Cincinnati's minor league system, he made his Major League debut on July 16, 1990.

Hammond made seven starts for Cincinnati during his first Major League season. His arrival coincided with the Reds' memorable 1990 championship campaign, when Cincinnati went wire-to-wire in first place before defeating Pittsburgh in the National League Championship Series and sweeping Oakland in the World Series.

The 1991 O-Pee-Chee Premier #60 represents Hammond near the beginning of his Major League career. Its Canadian O-Pee-Chee branding also gives the card additional appeal to collectors building comprehensive player collections or seeking alternatives to the major U.S. releases of the era.

Hammond later became a regular starting pitcher for the Florida Marlins, winning a career-high 15 games during the franchise's inaugural 1993 season. After several seasons away from the Major Leagues, he returned at age 36 and reinvented himself as an exceptionally effective relief pitcher.

With the Atlanta Braves in 2002, Hammond went 7-2 with a remarkable 0.95 ERA in 63 appearances, allowing only seven earned runs over 76 innings. His successful comeback extended his Major League career through 2006.
