At just 21 years old, he delivered 6 scoreless innings of one-hit relief in Game 4 of the 1971 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles, earning the victory as Pittsburgh evened the series on its way to the championship.

He remained with the Pirates through 1979 and earned a second championship ring as a member of the memorable 1979 We Are Family World Series champions. Kison later became a regular member of the California Angels rotation and contributed to their 1982 American League West championship season.

Kison pitched 15 Major League seasons with the Pirates, Angels and Red Sox, finishing with 115 victories and more than 1,000 strikeouts.
