Featuring veteran right-hander Bruce Kison late in his Major League career, this Bruce Kison autographed 1985 Fleer Update #306 California Angels card represents his final season with the Angels. Kison spent five seasons with California from 1980 through 1984 before finishing his playing career with the Boston Red Sox in 1985.
Kison joined the California Angels in 1980 after spending his first nine Major League seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. One of his strongest years in California came in 1982, when he went 10-5 with a 3.17 ERA and helped the Angels capture the American League West championship.
His career began memorably with Pittsburgh. As a 21-year-old rookie in 1971, Kison was called upon in Game 4 of the World Series against Baltimore and delivered 6 scoreless innings of one-hit relief to earn the victory. The Pirates went on to capture the championship in seven games.
Kison remained with Pittsburgh through 1979 and was a member of another World Series championship team in 1979. He finished that regular season 13-7 before making appearances in both the National League Championship Series and World Series. His move to California the following season began the second major chapter of his career.
Over 15 Major League seasons, Kison compiled 115 victories and more than 1,000 strikeouts while pitching for the Pirates, Angels and Red Sox. With its California Angels presentation from the closing stage of his career, the 1985 Fleer Update #306 is an appealing addition for Angels collectors, Pirates fans, Bruce Kison collectors, World Series-themed collections or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
