Featuring Bob Horner with the Atlanta Braves, this Bob Horner autographed 1982 Topps #145 Atlanta Braves card showcases one of the National League's premier power hitters during the early portion of his career. Horner was the first overall selection in the 1978 MLB Draft and made the unusual jump directly from college baseball to the Major Leagues without playing a game in the minor leagues.
Horner made his Braves debut in June 1978 after starring at Arizona State University and winning the inaugural Golden Spikes Award. He immediately demonstrated his power by homering off future Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven in his Major League debut. Despite appearing in only 89 games, Horner hit 23 home runs with 63 RBI and was named the 1978 National League Rookie of the Year.
By the time this 1982 Topps card was issued, Horner had already established himself as the centerpiece of Atlanta's lineup. He went on to hit 32 home runs with 97 RBI in 1982, earning his only All-Star selection while helping the Braves capture the National League West championship.
Horner produced one of baseball's most memorable power performances on July 6, 1986, when he hit four home runs in a single game against the Montreal Expos. He became only the 11th player in Major League history to accomplish the feat.
Over 10 Major League seasons, Horner finished with 218 home runs and 685 RBI, with 215 of those home runs coming in an Atlanta uniform. The 1982 Topps #145 is an appealing addition for Braves collectors, Bob Horner fans, Rookie of the Year collections, power-hitting collections, vintage Topps collectors or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
