One of the most electrifying leadoff hitters in baseball history, Coleman was a 1985 National League Rookie of the Year, two-time All-Star, and one of the greatest base stealers the game has ever seen. He finished his career with 752 stolen bases, ranking among the all-time leaders in Major League history.

Coleman made an immediate impact upon reaching the Major Leagues in 1985, stealing an incredible 110 bases to become the first rookie ever to surpass the 100-steal mark. He led the National League in stolen bases during each of his first six seasons (19851990) and helped the Cardinals capture the 1985 and 1987 National League pennants. His blazing speed and ability to create scoring opportunities made him the catalyst for the Cardinals' exciting "Whiteyball" style of play under manager Whitey Herzog.
