Add a signature from a key member of the Houston Astros' first division championship team with this Vern Ruhle autographed 1983 Topps #172 Houston Astros baseball card, available from Under the Radar Sports Promotions.

Vern Ruhle enjoyed a 13-season Major League career from 1974 through 1986, pitching for the Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Cleveland Indians, and California Angels. A right-handed pitcher known for his control, effective pitching approach, and ability to keep hitters off balance, Ruhle developed into a valuable member of Houston's pitching staff during one of the franchise's most competitive periods.

Ruhle made his Major League debut with the Detroit Tigers in 1974 before joining the Houston Astros in 1978. His greatest success came during the 1980 season, when he compiled an outstanding 12-4 record with a 2.37 ERA, helping Houston capture its first National League West Division championship.

The 1980 Astros featured an impressive pitching staff that included Nolan Ryan, Joe Niekro, and J.R. Richard. Ruhle's contributions proved especially important as Houston battled the Los Angeles Dodgers for the division title, ultimately winning a one-game playoff to advance to the postseason.

During the memorable 1980 National League Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, Ruhle started Game 4 and pitched effectively in a tightly contested matchup. The series became one of the most dramatic in postseason history, with four of its five games requiring extra innings.

Ruhle remained a member of the Houston pitching staff through 1984 before finishing his Major League playing career with Cleveland and California. After retiring as a player, he continued contributing to baseball as a pitching coach, working with Major League organizations and helping develop younger pitchers.

The 1983 Topps #172 card features Ruhle in his Houston Astros uniform during the later years of his tenure with the club. The 1983 Topps baseball set is particularly recognizable for its classic design featuring a large player photograph accompanied by a smaller circular portrait. This distinctive layout has made the set a longtime favorite among collectors of 1980s baseball cards.

This autographed card was acquired from a private collector and is offered by Under the Radar Sports Promotions. Ruhle passed away in 2007, making his signed cards especially meaningful to collectors seeking autographs of former Major League players.

This autographed Vern Ruhle card is an excellent addition to collections featuring Houston Astros players, members of the 1980 National League West championship team, former MLB pitchers, and signed vintage Topps baseball cards.
