Batista began the 1999 season with the Diamondbacks, appearing in 44 games with five home runs and 21 RBI before joining the Toronto Blue Jays in June. The move to Toronto helped ignite his offense, as Batista added 26 home runs and 79 RBI in 98 games with the Blue Jays.
Combined between Arizona and Toronto, Batista finished his breakout 1999 campaign batting .277 with 31 home runs and 100 RBI, establishing himself as one of baseballs emerging power-hitting infielders. He followed that performance with an even bigger year in 2000, blasting a career-high 41 home runs with 114 RBI and earning his first American League All-Star selection.
Batista went on to become a two-time MLB All-Star and finished his Major League career with 1,146 hits, 221 home runs and 718 RBI.
