Add an early-career flagship Topps issue of future two-time All-Star Tony Batista with this Tony Batista autographed 1997 Topps #344 Oakland Athletics card. Batista entered 1997 after an impressive rookie campaign in which he batted .298 and finished seventh in American League Rookie of the Year voting. He opened the 1997 season as Oaklands starting shortstop and appeared in 68 games for the Athletics, collecting 38 hits, 10 doubles, four home runs and 18 RBI. Batista made 54 starts at shortstop while also seeing action at second and third base.
Batistas power developed significantly following his early seasons in Oakland. He became a two-time MLB All-Star, earning selections with Toronto in 2000 and Baltimore in 2002. His 2000 season with the Blue Jays was the most prolific power campaign of his career, as Batista belted 41 home runs and drove in 114 runs.
Known for his distinctive wide-open batting stance and ability to provide power from the infield, Batista finished his Major League career with 1,146 hits, 221 home runs and 718 RBI.
