Featuring the left-hander during his years on Chicagos North Side, this Steve Trout autographed 1986 Fleer #384 Chicago Cubs card is a classic mid-1980s issue from Fleer. Trout had joined the Cubs in 1983 and became an important member of the starting rotation during one of the franchises most memorable seasons of the decade.
Trout enjoyed a strong campaign for the 1984 National League East champion Cubs, finishing 13-7 with a 3.41 ERA in 32 appearances, including 31 starts. He worked 190 innings as part of a rotation that also featured Rick Sutcliffe, Dennis Eckersley and Scott Sanderson as Chicago captured its first postseason berth since 1945.
He delivered one of his finest performances in the 1984 National League Championship Series against San Diego. Starting Game 2 at Wrigley Field, Trout pitched into the ninth inning and earned the victory as the Cubs defeated the Padres 4-2 to take a two-games-to-none lead in the series.
The son of former Major League pitcher Dizzy Trout, Steve pitched 12 seasons in the majors with the Chicago White Sox, Cubs, New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners. The left-hander won 88 games and logged more than 1,500 innings during a career that stretched from 1978 through 1989.
