Featuring veteran left-hander Ross Grimsley during his tenure with Cleveland, this Ross Grimsley autographed 1981 Fleer #406 Cleveland Indians card comes from Fleers inaugural modern baseball card set. The 1981 release was part of the landmark expansion of the baseball card market that saw Fleer and Donruss join Topps in producing nationally distributed Major League sets.

Grimsley arrived in Cleveland during the 1980 season after beginning the year with the Montreal Expos. He made 11 starts for the Indians following the move and remained with Cleveland for the 1981 season, giving this Fleer issue a connection to one of the later chapters of his Major League career.

The left-hander enjoyed his greatest individual season with Montreal in 1978. Grimsley went 20-11 with a 3.05 ERA, throwing 19 complete games and 263 innings while earning the only All-Star selection of his career. His 20 victories established a career high and placed him among the National Leagues leading pitchers that season.

Before joining Montreal, Grimsley pitched for the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles. He was a member of Cincinnatis 1972 National League championship club and later pitched in the postseason for Baltimore in 1974. Known as a durable starter during his prime, Grimsley surpassed 200 innings in six different seasons.

Grimsley pitched 11 seasons in the Major Leagues and finished with 124 victories, 79 complete games and more than 2,000 innings pitched. Combining a veteran pitcher with the historical significance of Fleers inaugural modern set, the 1981 Fleer #406 is an appealing addition for Cleveland collectors, Ross Grimsley fans, early Fleer set collectors or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
