Add a New York Yankees issue of veteran catcher Ron Hassey with this Ron Hassey autographed 1985 Fleer Update #U-50 New York Yankees card. The Fleer Update set documented players appearing with new clubs, and #U-50 captures Hassey during his first season in New York after beginning his Major League career with the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs.
Hassey joined the Yankees in 1985 and shared catching duties while providing a productive left-handed bat. He appeared in 92 games and batted .296 with 13 home runs and 42 RBI, helping New York win 97 games and finish just two games behind Toronto in a tightly contested American League East race.
One of the most distinctive accomplishments of Hasseys career was his involvement in two Major League perfect games. On July 28, 1991, he caught Dennis Martnezs perfect game for the Montreal Expos against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Eleven years earlier, Hassey had caught Len Barkers perfect game for Cleveland on May 15, 1981, making him the first catcher in Major League history to catch two perfect games.
Hassey played 14 seasons in the Major Leagues, appearing for Cleveland, Chicago, New York, Oakland and Montreal. He later reached three consecutive World Series with the Oakland Athletics from 1988 through 1990, earning a championship ring as a member of Oaklands 1989 World Series championship club.
The 1985 Fleer Update #U-50 captures Hassey during his first season in pinstripes and is an excellent addition for New York Yankees collectors, Ron Hassey fans, perfect-game collections, Fleer Update set collectors or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
