This card comes from the popular 2001 Fleer Ultra set, a 280-card premium release that continued one of Fleer's most successful baseball brands. Known for its glossy UV-coated finish, premium card stock, and exceptional photography, Fleer Ultra remained a hobby favorite throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. The 2001 edition also featured collectible Gold Medallion, Platinum Medallion, and Masterpieces parallels, while the final portion of the checklist was devoted to short-printed prospect cards.

Selected by the Montreal Expos with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 1995 MLB Draft, Michael Barrett enjoyed an 11-year Major League career with the Montreal Expos, Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, and Toronto Blue Jays. Originally drafted as a shortstop, Barrett successfully transitioned to catcher in the minor leagues and developed into one of the National League's premier offensive backstops. He finished his career with 98 home runs, 424 RBIs, a .263 batting average, and captured the 2005 National League Silver Slugger Award.
