Featuring former Major League pitcher and 1980 World Series champion Marty Bystrom, this Marty Bystrom autographed 1992 WIZ New York Yankees of the 80's #23 card celebrates a right-handed pitcher whose career included time with two of baseball's most recognizable franchises, the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees.

The Philadelphia Phillies selected Bystrom in the fourth round of the 1975 MLB Draft out of Coral Park High School in Miami, Florida. He developed through Philadelphia's minor league system, including time with the Spartanburg Phillies, before earning an opportunity to pitch in the Major Leagues.

Bystrom made his Major League debut on September 7, 1980, joining Philadelphia during a closely contested National League East race against the Montreal Expos. Despite having no previous Major League experience, he immediately became an important contributor to the Phillies' starting rotation.

In one of the most memorable late-season performances in franchise history, Bystrom compiled a remarkable 5-0 record with a 1.50 ERA in five September starts. His outstanding pitching helped Philadelphia secure the National League East championship and provided the club with an important boost heading into the postseason.

The Phillies defeated the Houston Astros in a dramatic five-game National League Championship Series before advancing to face the Kansas City Royals in the World Series.

Bystrom earned the starting assignment in Game 5 of the 1980 World Series against Kansas City. Philadelphia ultimately defeated the Royals in six games, capturing the first World Series championship in franchise history.

Following his memorable rookie season, Bystrom remained part of Philadelphia's pitching staff throughout the early 1980s. His experience as both a starter and relief pitcher provided the Phillies with additional depth as the organization continued competing in the National League.

Bystrom was also with Philadelphia during its 1983 National League championship season, when the Phillies defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series before falling to the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series.

After his years with Philadelphia, Bystrom joined the New York Yankees, bringing his Major League experience to the American League. His time with New York in 1985 marked the final stage of his Major League playing career.

The 1992 WIZ New York Yankees of the 80's #23 is part of a retrospective baseball card series celebrating players associated with the Yankees during the 1980s. Rather than representing a contemporary playing-season release, the card revisits the franchise's roster from the previous decade.

The WIZ series offers collectors an alternative to traditional Topps, Fleer and Donruss releases, particularly for players whose time with the Yankees was relatively brief. Bystrom's inclusion provides an opportunity to collect a card specifically commemorating his association with New York.

Although Bystrom's Major League career concluded in 1985, his memorable September 1980 performance and contributions to Philadelphia's championship team remain important accomplishments in his baseball career.

The 1992 WIZ New York Yankees of the 80's #23 is an appealing addition for Marty Bystrom fans, New York Yankees collectors, Philadelphia Phillies championship autograph collections, regional and specialty baseball card enthusiasts, WIZ set collectors or those assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
