A two-time National League All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award winner, two-time National League stolen base champion, and two-time World Series champion, Grissom finished his career with 2,251 hits, 227 home runs, 967 RBIs, and 429 stolen bases.

Few players are more closely associated with the Expos of the early 1990s than Grissom. From 1990 through 1994, he emerged as one of the National League's premier leadoff hitters while anchoring center field with Gold Glove-caliber defense. He was a cornerstone of the legendary 1994 Montreal Expos, a club that owned the best record in Major League Baseball before the season was cut short by the players' strike. Many historians believe that team had an excellent opportunity to win the franchise's first World Series championship.

Following his success in Montreal, Grissom helped the Atlanta Braves win the 1995 World Series, famously recording the final out of the Fall Classic, before later adding another championship with the San Francisco Giants in 2002.
