Lonnie Smith Autographed 1985 Fleer #239 St. Louis Cardinals Card

Featuring one of the National Leagues most disruptive baserunners of the early 1980s, this Lonnie Smith autographed 1985 Fleer #239 St. Louis Cardinals card captures the speedy outfielder near the end of his tenure in St. Louis. Smith was an important part of the Cardinals 1982 World Series championship club and built a remarkable postseason rsum that eventually included championships with three different franchises.

Smith enjoyed his finest season in 1982, his first year with St. Louis. He batted .307 with 182 hits, scored a National League-leading 120 runs and stole 68 bases. Smith earned his only career All-Star selection, received MVP consideration and provided a dynamic presence at the top of the lineup as the Cardinals captured the National League East.

He continued his strong play in the postseason as St. Louis advanced to the 1982 World Series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Smith collected 10 hits and scored six runs during the seven-game series as the Cardinals captured their ninth World Series championship.

Smith remained with St. Louis through the beginning of the 1985 season before joining the Kansas City Royals in May. The move produced an unusual piece of baseball history: Smith went from a Cardinals club that would win the National League pennant to the Royals team that ultimately faced St. Louis in the World Series. He appeared in all seven games for Kansas City, batting .333 as the Royals captured their first championship.

Over a 17-year Major League career, Smith accumulated 1,488 hits, 370 stolen bases and a .288 batting average. He won World Series championships with the 1980 Philadelphia Phillies, 1982 St. Louis Cardinals and 1985 Kansas City Royals, and later helped the Atlanta Braves reach consecutive World Series in 1991 and 1992. The 1985 Fleer #239 is an appealing addition for Cardinals collectors, Lonnie Smith fans, World Series collections, Fleer set collectors or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
