Nicknamed Bull, Durham developed into one of the Cubs top offensive threats after arriving from the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed an outstanding 1984 season, batting .279 with 23 home runs and 96 RBI while helping Chicago capture the National League East championship and reach the postseason for the first time since 1945.
Durham earned National League All-Star selections in 1982 and 1983 and was also recognized for his defensive work with a Gold Glove Award at first base in 1982. From 1982 through 1987, he reached 20 home runs five times, providing Chicago with consistent power from the left side of the plate.
Durham spent the majority of his 10-year Major League career with the Cubs after beginning with St. Louis and later finishing with the Cincinnati Reds. He hit 230 home runs with 701 RBI during his career and remains closely associated with the Cubs clubs of the 1980s.
