The ultimate team achievement followed in 1980. Christenson was a member of the Phillies club that defeated Houston in the National League Championship Series and Kansas City in the World Series, capturing the first World Series championship in franchise history.

Christenson also possessed unusual power for a pitcher. He hit 11 home runs during his Major League career, including three in 1977, giving Phillies fans another reason to remember him beyond his work on the mound.

He ultimately spent his entire 11-year Major League career with Philadelphia, finishing with 83 victories and appearing for multiple postseason teams.
