Samuel earned his first All-Star selection and finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting. He again led the National League in triples in 1985.

A three-time MLB All-Star, Samuel enjoyed a 16-year Major League career and finished with 1,578 hits, 161 home runs, 396 stolen bases, and 102 triples. His rare combination of speed and power made him one of the most exciting Phillies players of the 1980s. Samuel later returned to Philadelphia as a coach, continuing his long association with the organization.
