Parrett made his Major League debut with Montreal in 1986 after working his way through the Expos organization. Used primarily out of the bullpen, he appeared in 45 games as a rookie, beginning a run as a durable and frequently used relief pitcher.

Parrett developed into an especially valuable member of the Expos bullpen over the following seasons. His finest year with Montreal came in 1988, when he appeared in 61 games and posted an impressive 12-4 record with a 2.65 ERA, providing the club with effective innings in a variety of relief situations.

After his time in Montreal, Parrett pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics and Colorado Rockies. He was a member of the Rockies during their inaugural 1993 season and finished his Major League career having appeared in 491 games over 11 seasons, with the vast majority of those appearances coming out of the bullpen.
