This card comes from the classic 1984 Topps set, one of the most recognizable baseball card releases of the decade. Featuring the colorful dual-photo design unique to the 1984 flagship set, the set remains a favorite among collectors and showcases many of the biggest stars of the era.
Hal McRae enjoyed an outstanding 19-year Major League career, playing for the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals. One of the premier designated hitters and run producers of his generation, McRae was a three-time American League All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and one of the key offensive catalysts of the Royals' success throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He finished his career with 2,091 hits, 191 home runs, 1,097 RBIs, and a .290 batting average.
McRae became the heart of the Royals' lineup after being acquired from Cincinnati and helped lead Kansas City to American League West Division titles in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, and 1984. His finest individual season came in 1982, when he batted .308 with 27 home runs, 133 RBIs, and won his second Silver Slugger Award while finishing among the American League MVP leaders. Widely regarded as one of the greatest designated hitters in baseball history, McRae later returned to the Royals as both a coach and manager.
This card captures McRae during the latter stages of his outstanding playing career as one of the franchise's all-time greats.
