Featuring Marty Bystrom with the Philadelphia Phillies, this Marty Bystrom autographed 1982 Donruss #93 Philadelphia Phillies card showcases the right-handed pitcher who played a memorable role in the franchise's first World Series championship.

The Phillies selected Bystrom in the fourth round of the 1976 MLB Draft. After developing through Philadelphia's minor league system, he made his Major League debut in September 1980, arriving at a critical point in the Phillies' pursuit of the National League East championship.

Bystrom immediately became one of the season's most remarkable late-season contributors. In five September starts, he compiled a perfect 5-0 record with a 1.50 ERA, providing Philadelphia with an unexpected boost during its closely contested division race against the Montreal Expos.

His outstanding September performance helped the Phillies capture the National League East title and earned him a place on the postseason roster. Bystrom continued contributing during Philadelphia's historic championship run, including a start in Game 5 of the 1980 World Series against the Kansas City Royals.

The Phillies ultimately defeated Kansas City in six games to capture the first World Series championship in franchise history. Bystrom's remarkable introduction to the Major Leagues remains one of the memorable individual stories from that championship season.

Bystrom continued pitching for Philadelphia throughout the early 1980s, working as both a starter and reliever. In 1981, he appeared in 18 games, including 16 starts, as the Phillies returned to postseason play following their World Series victory.

He spent his entire five-season Major League career with the Phillies, appearing in 98 games and recording 29 victories. Although his career was relatively brief, his contributions to the 1980 championship team secured him a lasting place in Philadelphia baseball history.
