Gene Nelson Autographed 1991 Donruss #385 Oakland Athletics Card

Featuring Gene Nelson with the Oakland Athletics, this Gene Nelson autographed 1991 Donruss #385 Oakland Athletics card captures the veteran right-handed reliever during the final season of his Major League career. The card comes from the colorful 1991 Donruss release and represents the closing chapter of Nelsons successful five-season tenure in Oakland.

Nelson joined the Athletics in 1987 after earlier Major League stops with the Yankees, Mariners and White Sox. Working primarily out of the bullpen, he became a valuable part of an Oakland pitching staff that helped the club capture three consecutive American League pennants from 1988 through 1990.

His finest individual season came in 1989, when Nelson went 9-6 with an outstanding 1.57 ERA in 65 appearances. He allowed only 55 hits over 92 innings, providing Oakland with exceptional work out of the bullpen as the Athletics captured their second consecutive American League championship.

Oakland completed the season by sweeping the San Francisco Giants in the 1989 World Series, giving Nelson a World Series championship during the best statistical season of his career. He remained a key member of the staff in 1990, appearing in 44 games as the 103-win Athletics captured their third consecutive American League pennant.

Nelson remained with Oakland through 1991, his final Major League season, completing a 13-season career in which he appeared in more than 600 games as both a starter and reliever. The 1991 Donruss #385 is an appealing addition for Athletics collectors, Gene Nelson fans, 1991 Donruss set collectors, 1989 World Series collections or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
